Do you feel as if games such as Halo and Counter strike are social? Some would say no but I have heard about many people who feel as if this is a very social interaction. What do you think?
This is my question but I personally feel that they are not very social. Social in a sense that yes you are communicating with someone else but not social in the fact that you are not getting to know the other person or you are not conversating with them. All you are doing is simply playing a game against them. It reminds me of family fun in that you are obligated to talk to the other players but if you didn't have to you probably wouldn't. That sounds terrible doesn't it? Ok well maybe not family fun, but forced family fun.
I am a huge fan of Halo and Halo 2 and I play with others almost regularly. Every now and then my friends and I will have several people go to one person's house and have a huge Halo tournament. Evn though I can definitely understand why one would say it is not a very sociable intearction, I believe it can be. Of course there are things like XBOX Live which enable someone from playing with others without any actual interaction, I think if the game is played with many individuals in the same network, it can be considered a somewhat "sociable" experience.
