Q: The computer can practically be used to solve anything. Is this a good or bad thing according to Stoll? (kmartinez)

A1: It is a bad thing according to Stoll because it is just one more way that computers isolate humans and allow for less real human interaction. (schilmeran)

A2: To add to that, he also states that " by turning to a computer when confronted with a problem, you limit yuour ability to recognize other solutions" (Pg. 190). Stoll feels that computers decrease individual's ability to problem-solve and think criticially. (cellis)

Q: What did McLuhan mean when he divided media into "hot" and "cool"? Also, what are examples of "hot" and "cool" media? (cellis)

A: Hot media were "low in participation" and cool media were "high in participation." (pg 190) Examples of hot media would be the television or radio because they require little participation from people and cold media would be examples like the telephone because it requires a certain level of participation.
