Questions about Parker
Q1: How does Parker, through Nass' experiences, suggest that PowerPoint both "lifts the floor" but also "lowers the ceiling"? (kmartinez)
A: Parker suggests that PowerPoint "lifts the floor" by providing efficiently delivering content and distributing a lot more information. It "lowers the ceiling" by removing the process involved in how to get that information. (pg 211) (schilmeran)
Q: Do you feel that PowerPoint provides an added advantage in presentations, or do you feel that it creates too much generalization of the topic of the presentation? (jstanley)
A: I feel PowerPoint provides a wonderful advantage in presentations. Just because Powerpoint has a certain style and set-up that is reccomended (and easy) for user to use for their presentations, does not mean that is the only way it must be done. PowerPoint still allows for creativity and is an extremely effective way of presenting infromation digitally with minimal effort. (cellis)
Q: What does Parker feel is lost by giving a PowerPoint presentation as opposed to any other type of presentation? (schlimeran)
A: The "process." He claims that with the rigidity of PowerPoint presentations, one cannot see how their professors(or other presenters) got to their present state of thought. Also, when not using PowerPoint, people are more able to think freely and can think of new things on the spot.
Q: Is the popularity of PowerPoint really creating more boring people or has it just finally given them a voice? And if it has given them a voice is good that PowerPoint has given them a voice or does it just make their boring speech accetpable? (nwithers)
