Q: According to Mark J.P. Wolf, when was the “Golden Age of Abstraction” and what made this time period so significant? (cellis)

A1: The "Golden Age of Abstraction" started when video games began to rise in 1970s to 1984. It ended with the crash of the industry. The Golden Age was significant because it marked a time period when representational graphics were becoming more common and the video games and graphics were more detailed. (ijoshi)

Q: What are the three conditions that create a sense of immersion in a virtual reality or 3-D computer game? (cellis)

A1: Engagement and Presence both create a sense of immersion in such games as well as Classical Cinema. Each condition allows the gamer to become more into the game. Thus the term "deep play" is used when talking about engagement (WP, 69). Presence is associated more with virtual reality games where gameers actually feel emotionally attatched to the game. They are so drawn into the game that it influences them in real life situations. The use of Cinema is a way for engagement and immersion in such games because it gives the player more of a sense of story and flow to what exactly they are doing.
