Questions about Blood
John Mark Purcell, April 3
Q: What is the difference between weblogs and wikis?
A: Weblogs are websites that provide links (along with accompanying commentary) to articles (news and non-news) and pages on the internet. It is a sort of "filter" for readers of the weblog that saves them time by cutting out the need to surf the interent. Instead, they just go straight to the weblog. Wikis are a collective knowledge about a specific topic. While only one person maintains a weblog, many people contribute to the upkeep of a wiki. (murban)
Q - While there are many, many more blogs on the internet than weblogs, do you think weblogs are more or less popular, and which do you think people spend more time on? (murban)
A - Seeing as how there are more blogs on the internet, blogs would probably more popular because of the way society uses the internet today. But it also depends on who is looking for what on the internet. Weblogs would be much more popular if people were searching for something specific. (rsororian)
A: Since blogs are like an online diary for many people and as pointed out there are much more blogs on the internet, I believe blogs are more popular. Also, weblogs are probably hard to navigate if you really are in search of something...blogs are more for personal use and no one needs to sift throught them looking for a certain site. (schilmeran)
Q: How has "blogging" changed the internet? Has it had any influence on society? (rsororian)
A: Blogging has given internet users the ability to participate in the content available online. Weblogs also "perform a valuable filtering service and provide tools for more critical evaluation of the information available on the Web" basically allowing a lot of the information on the internet to be questioned and giving users the opportunity to respond. (cellis)
Q: How have weblogs changed since their introduction? (schilmeran)
A: The have become more interactive through methods of seeing who else has web blogs and the ability to comment. (ijoshi)
Q: What type of style did the original weblogs follow? What type of style do they follow now? (cellis)
